About RSRR

The RGNUL Student Research Review (RSRR) Journal is a bi-annual, student-run, blind peer-reviewed, flagship journal based at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab. It has been founded with the objective of facilitating arguments in black and white.

Call for Book Reviews

  • The RSRR Editorial Board invites submissions from students, academicians, lawyers, and other professionals from the legal fraternity on a rolling basis.
  • The selected book reviews will be published on the website of RSRR.
  • Books are a powerhouse of utility. Even in the legal field, books form an important source of information for scholars, academicians, students, inter alia. They, thus, require critical analysis.
  • A book review is descriptive and analytical. It entails a dispassionate evaluation of the quality, meaning, and significance of a book. It focuses on the body of research, which readers do not delve into.
  • Through this initiative, RSRR aims to critically examine the ideas promoted by the author of any legal literature with originality and legal tenability. The aim is to provide a holistic understanding and a balanced critique of books that have a legal central theme. The book can be fiction, non-fiction, autobiography, etc. as long as its primary focus is on the law.

Suggested Structure

  • Introduction: This part should include the name of the author, the book title, and its main theme. The context of the book should be provided, the time and age in which it was written. The book reviewer must have an in-depth understanding of the book’s purpose and its scope, and convey these findings to the readers.
  • Summary of content: The summary of contents should entail a brief summary of the key points presented in the book. Every fact need not be mentioned, only those essential instances which create a substantial impact on the book can be mentioned. This chapter should be brief, as analysis takes priority.
  • Analysis and evaluation of the book: This chapter will entail your analysis and evaluation of the book. Make critical comments regarding the book’s central theme; state whether the book is lucid in explaining its central theme; whether the book is full of logical fallacies, etc. Substantiate your analysis/criticism with instances/evidence from the book. You may also give examples of areas where the book did well and areas where it could be improved. If need be, a comparison to other books can also be made. Avoid excessive quotations and give a specific page reference when directly quoting from the book.
  • Conclusion: Sum up or state your thesis or make the final judgment regarding the book. You may introduce new ideas that go beyond the book if they extend the logic of your thesis. This paragraph needs to balance the book’s strengths and weaknesses in order to unify your evaluation.
