“In light of requests by students from all four corners of India, JSLPG is pleased to announce an extension for the Call for Applications. The students can now apply by July 22. No further extension or any requests made in this respect would be entertained thereafter.”

Did BCCI Judgment ring up some bells in your mind? Ever fancied yourself as a decent writer apart from Facebook and Twitter. If yes is still your answer, then this is the golden opportunity for you to take those writing skills a notch higher. The Organizing Board of the Journal of Sports Law, Policy and Governance (JSLPG) is seeking applications from Sports Law aficionados for the vacant positions on the Student Editorial Board.

The work at JSLPG will neither be a cakewalk or herculean for that matter. All what we want is meticulous hard work and some of your precious time. Even though the Journal does not mention this as a standard of qualification particularly but please don’t apply if you only want to put up a nice small dark tick over that Journal box in your six-page CV.

We at JSLPG are striving to build a platform for making the vision of a comprehensive and efficient sports law research database a reality and therefore we want our editorial compatriots to blend in with the aims and objectives of the Journal.

All this may be sounding like a hullabaloo for some but the team of JSLPG is actually vex-proof and we won’t even eat you. We also don’t believe in hierarchy and hence all the members across all the boards would be working closely in coordination with each other.

JSLPG recognize the women of today as champions and seeing the rise of Indian sportswomen recently, it is quite necessary that more and more women are given a pedestal to usher in new changes in the regime of Sports in India and globally. For these reasons, the Journal requests participation of women in huge numbers.

Brief Role of Student Editors:

JSLPG will be producing one volume each year, divided into two issues. Student Editors work closely with the main Editorial Board of the JSLPG to edit and produce the journal. Typically this will involve proofreading articles, checking footnotes, and verifying all sources cited by the authors.

Student Editors gain valuable experience in high-level academic writing in law and develop excellent analytical and legal skills. They also get the opportunity to work with the Executive Board members and other law students in the production of an academic publication.

The role is totally voluntary. Each Student Editor receives a free soft copy of each issue they work on and full online access to all issues ever published (upon request). Student Editors are also acknowledged within the publication.

Application Process:

Please remember to read about the various positions under the Student Editorial Board in the ‘Call for Applications‘ attached below and only apply to a particular position after reading the eligibility and responsibilities.

Applications for 2017 close at 11:59 PM on 22nd July 2017. Please don’t be a procrastinator for this application process, spare that for your examinations. If JSLPG gets suitable applicants for all the positions, the call for applications can be closed before the above mentioned last date. Hence individuals are requested to apply as soon as possible.

Your application should consist of a:

“The important thing in life is not to triumph but to compete”
-Pierre de Coubertin, The Olympian (1984) by Peter L. Dixon

In the past decade, the world of sports has transformed like a butterfly. On the fairer side this transformation has brought a more robust framework for Administration, Regulation and Organization of modern sports.

Among all these positives, what remains a matter of concern for agencies around the world are the darker aspects of this unhinged transformation which includes but is not limited to issues of Doping, Inequality, Corruption, Mismanagement and Erroneous Decision Making.

Within a system of such dis-balance agencies and nations across the globe have become more reliant on specific set of laws, policy guidance and good governance.

These overhauling changes in the vision of the stakeholders has surely brought a more positive outlook for the sports and is a step towards a better future but with a plethora of laws and policy provisions comes the evil of burgeoning litigation which is quite evident from the fact that each passing day newer and newer issues are being brought up and discussed in domestic courts all over the world.

Even the Court of Arbitration for Sport, the highest tribunal for resolving disputes in sports is no exception to this rising phenomenon. Keeping all such material findings in light, it has become quite imperative for the Academia to come up with modern legal scholarship and develop it further in order to contribute and provide reasoned solutions to the spate of questions that have crept up in recent times.

We at JSLPG are trying to lend our support in building a global initiative for research and development in Sports Laws, Policy and Governance wherein we seek to play a small but efficient role in resolving these issues through conclusive analysis, planned strategy and project development.

The JSLPG (Journal of Sports Law, Policy and Governance) will be a peer-reviewed open-access journal published under the aegis of North-East Students for the Furtherance of International Law (NESFIL), (an International Law Students Association (ILSA) local chapter) in collaboration with the National Law University and Judicial Academy Assam.

The JSLPG will be published bi-annually (May and December) in the niche area of International Sports Law, Policy and Governance. The JSLPG would be the first and the only journal in India of its type to encourage the study of Sports Law in the light of Policy, Governance and other allied issues.

Manuscripts are invited from practitioners, academicians, students and other stakeholders in the similar area of study. The Journal will maintain an august Editorial Panel of International Sports Law experts.

The Journal aims to highlight the critical issues affecting the formulation, regulation and implementation of the law and policy affecting the sports in present times. The JSLPG will focus on contemporary issues relating to sports law with a comparative approach but quality research work on any significant issue concerning the aspect of sports law and policy would be welcomed.

The editorial board will also organize several events to promote interest and scholarship in the field of Sports law in addition to the publication of this journal. This would include colloquies, an annual essay competition and a quiz series.

We are an equitable and gender-neutral organization. In line with the organization’s traditional policy of promoting gender equality, female academics and/or practitioners are particularly encouraged to send their proposals.
