Call for Applicants: RAJIV GANDHI RESEARCH ASSISTANTS TO LEGISLATORS (RG-RALs)
RGICS is looking for outstanding young graduates interested in a career in development, public administration, governance, civil society, law, journalism or politics for appointment as RG-RALs in 2014-2015.
RGICS is a 23-year-old independent national think tank. We work on the relationship between social change and politics.
We do the following:
(i) undertake multi-disciplinary research;
(ii) raise public awareness about how political consciousness, political engagement and the structure and practice of politics influences social and economic change;
(iii) promote democratization of public policy decision-making and inclusion of people’s voice in policy formation and implementation;
(iv) develop proposals for legal and policy reform;and
(v) offer knowledge products and services, education and training to political activists as well as to civil society members and others interested in social change and politics.
The Institute is promoted by the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. RG-RALs will have the opportunity to learn about a wide range of policy issues, national and global, over the year-long programme. They will be able to get first hand exposure to the interaction of politics, public policy, academia and government on policy issues.
RG-RALs will study and analyze current policy issues and prepare weekly as well one-off briefings for wide circulation amongst Members of Parliament. Policy briefings prepared by RG-RALs will be provided to individual legislators and posted on the RGICS web-site, blog and Facebook page.
They will have the opportunity to organize and participate in a range of academic seminars and discussions. They will have an opportunity to witness first hand the nature of engagement of the political class with policy issues.
RG-RALs are selected through a highly competitive process involving a written test and two levels of interviews. They will undergo a rigorous orientation program and will be guided by subject experts.
1. Indian citizen; maximum 25 years of age (28 years for SC/ST applicants)
2. Graduate with an outstanding academic record, exceptional leadership qualities and achievements.
3. Proven excellent analytical and communication skills (written and spoken, in English).
4. Proven research skills and past experience or published articles in policy work would be highly desirable.
5. Willingness to travel to rural areas for field-work.
Fixed Monthly stipend ranging from Rs. 20,000-22,000/- based on qualification & experience.

Duration and Location
RG-RALs will be required to work full time for a period of one year, based in New Delhi.
