Internship Experience @ Anand and Anand, Noida: A great place for IPR work, Rs. 2500 Stipend

Latika Choudhary, NLU Odisha

Anand and Anand, Noida

The office location can be found here.

The team consists of near about 20-30 lawyers in Patents, Trademark and Litigation departments respectively.

Application Process

The formal procedure, as we all generally follow, is the same old sending in the CV and filling up the internship application form provided on their official website here.

I got mine through jack (most of the interns at Anand and Anand get in that way so make sure you have a good contact to get you into the firm!) since the HR generally doesn’t respond in time to your applications.

Duration and timings

May 15th 2015- June 16th 2015.

First Day

The office is located close to the metro station, in the hub of transmitting and broadcasting stations in the NCR region which has offices of some of the most popular shooting television serials, news and other entertainment-cum-education channels.

You’ll have a brief orientation by the HR head, who will acquaint you with the basic things that you need to be familiar with.

You will also be required to sign a Non-disclosure agreement which states that you will not drain out any information regarding the firm or its clients to anyone during the course of the internship.

The Anand and Anand office is a two storied building with the basement allotted to the interns. The building is well equipped with computers and books. It has neatly designed compact cabins for the associates.

Main tasks at the Anand and Anand internship

During the introduction session, you’ll be asked to choose a department out of the 3 i.e. Patents, Trademarks and Litigation. Accordingly, you will have to work with the team allotted.

I was allotted Patents (even though I do not have a science background).

The main tasks included researching on present patent matters, case analysis, drafting of patent related applications.

Unlike what I had assumed, the Patents work turned out to be much more interesting and tedious.

Anand and Anad has some of the most fancy clients from all over the world and thus working for huge names was an added incentive.

The patents team will never fail to provide you with work. There is always something new to learn, considering the team is very co-operative and approachable.

The office is filled with smiling and cheerful staff. The associates are very friendly and have this ready-for-anything attitude all the time (even at 4 in the morning. Believe me: I’ve witnessed it).

The staff is helpful and kind.

The patents team at Anand and Anand in particular was brilliant to work with. They never treated me as someone new to the field.

Instead, they would always sit me down and teach me, with as much patience as possible, every little thing associated with the subject matter I was given to work on.

Best things

There are too many good things to be listed, but the best ones were-

The coffee machine- it’s a life saving device, specially when you’re working late or are exhausted or a coffee lover! (The best part, you can have as many cups as you want. It’s on the house!)

The vending machine- this one needs money to operate but it provides you with a number of snacks to munch on in case of untimely hunger pangs!

The library- A&A has the best collection of books on IPR I’ve come across in a Law firm. Some of the books are very old and have been gifted to Mr. Anand by the authors themselves!

The office provides you with a cab up to your residence if it gets late anywhere beyond 8 o’clock! If that’s not enough to keep you in the office, what will!

Bad things

This is a tough one. During my Anand and Anand internship I personally did not find any flaw or anything to complain about.

But yes, for people who want to have a not-so-serious vacation and want to intern for the sake of it this law firm is not the place to be.

On a serious note, there is nothing about the firm or people that would fetch it any negative points!

Biggest Lessons

I’ve never been serious at my internships before and have always tried to escape being loaded with work. But the sort of atmosphere here makes you want to work hard and learn.

The associates at Anand and Anand are very jolly and always willing to help you out.

There will be times when you will be required to stay back late (sometimes as late at as even till 2 or 3 in the morning if the matter is urgent) but the sort of work and the people around will make it a piece of cake (a very tasty one!)

Just work hard and show the zest to learn (a genuine one). It might just work in your favor if you want to have a dedicated future in this field!

Anand and Anand is a must place to intern if you want to pursue a career in IPR.
