Call for Papers: Academike (Lawctopus’ Law Journal): Submit by Jan 20

academike Academike (Lawctopus’ Law Journal) is inviting submissions.

Our purpose is to also promote an inflow of ideas and facilitate discussions (through our comment box,) on a range of issues pertaining to the law.

We are accepting long-form research or analytical articles, dissertations, short-form articles, book reviews, case notes, and legislation analysis, commentaries, and explainers.

While we are working within the bounds of the law, Academike recognizes law’s social implications.

Thus, we wish to be a platform for law students, social science students, academicians, and lawyers to discuss, and peer review texts. 

We’ll soon be launching research and essay contests on important or current thematics.

Guidelines for submission

  • We expect only original pieces that reflect your analysis and understanding of the subject matter.
  • Kindly stick to the suggestive word limit for respective submissions:
    • Dissertations: 6000-60,000 words
    • Research papers: 3000-6000 words
    • Short articles: 1000-3000 words
    • Case Notes: 1000-3000 words
    • Legislation-analysis/commentary: 1000-3000 words
    • Book Reviews: 1000-3000 words
    • Explainers: 1000-10,000 words

Formatting and editorial guidelines

  • All submissions must be sent as a Microsoft Word document.  
  • Please use Times New Roman, font size 12 with 1.5 line spacing for the main body of your piece (except the title). Footnotes must use Times New Roman, font size 10; alignment justified for the entire piece. 
  • Footnoting can be done in any uniform method of citation (Bluebook, MLA, SILC, NUJS Law Review, ILI, etc.)
  • All non-English terms and Latin legal phrases need to be italicized.
  • Please avoid underlining or bolding phrases and sentences for emphasis (except for subheading and title).
  • Double quotations must be used only when directly quoting a statement, in other cases, use single quotes. All direct quotes must be referenced for context.
  • Acronyms or short forms (especially non-standard) must be written out in brackets accompanied by their full form. 
  • Articles with subheads will be preferred. Subheads must be in bold. Using contextual and appropriate subheads breaks the monotony of the article and enhances readability.
  • All submissions need to be referenced, especially facts and case laws must not be stranded loosely. Articles with aforesaid irregularity can be sent back despite their potential.
  • Needless to say, plagiarised work will be outrightly refused. 

Note: Articles can be resent to the author for rectification and clarification if additional information is required.

The authors need to provide a concise abstract before submitting their piece. We’ll use the abstract to pre-screen submissions.

The abstract should not exceed 300 words accompanied by your email address.

It should lay out clearly what your submission attempts to say.

Author Bio

The author’s bio must be accompanied along with the main article if the latter is selected for submission.

The bio must be written in the third person and should describe the educational background, qualification, and prior work experience (if any).

Please attach the bio as a different word file.

How to submit?

Please send your submissions as an MS word document to with the subject line ‘Submission for Academike’.

Submissions without the abstract and the author’s bio will be outrightly rejected.

The themes of your article should be related to the law, but can also be based around its societal, political, cultural impact.

Please mention your Full Name, Email ID, and Phone number in the body of the email.

The Abstract and the Author’s Bio should be mentioned in the body of the email too.

1. Whether the journal (and the submission) will be freely accessible online?

Academike is free and open for all.

All submissions (if published) too can be accessed online for free.

2. What is the publication fee?

There is NO publication fee.

While editorial resources take time and effort and are expensive, and so are tech requirements like hosting space, we have decided to keep Academike free.

We are exploring avenues to keep Academike sustainable in the long-term. Currently, we are funded and supported by our parent organisation, Lawctopus and Lawctopus Law School.

3. Whether the authors will be given a certificate of publication?

Yes. An e-certificate will be issued. E-certificates are issued to all authors between 1st and 3rd of each month.

Please also note that the URL/link of your published article in itself is a ‘certificate’ of publication.

4. By when will the article (if selected) be published?

All authors are responded too within 2 days-2 weeks of the date of the email. In case your submission is not found fit for publication, you’ll be informed accordingly.

The publication is done within 2 days-2 weeks of the date of the article being received in its finalized form.
