Internship Experience @ Aap Vakeel Hain [Online]: A light, fun internship

Name of Organisation, Location city, Team Strength

Aap Vakeel Hain

Application Process with contact details

Aap Vakeel Hain had initiated a summer internship program, starting from this year. Here is the link.

You have to fill out the details, and they will get back to you in a while. Since they are a small organisation, I think they will take anybody who would apply.

Duration of internship and timings

Since it was an online internship, I had to sit at home and work. The exact duration would be from the second week of May to mid-June.

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

Again, this was an online internship, so there was not much of a infrastructure comprehension issue, nor was there any formality.

The first impression I got was that Aap Vakeel Hain was a small-scale organisation made up of young people, who wanted to do something different. Apart from that, there was nothing much to comprehend.

I used to keep in contact with my coordinator through Whatsapp.

So, on my first day, I was informed that each intern is expected to write three articles throughout the period of internship. For the first article, I chose a case commentary on Pricol v. Johnson, which related to foreign seated arbitration.

Main tasks

Researching and writing articles for their blog.

Throughout my internship, I wrote three articles- one case commentary on Pricol v. Johnson, one critique on the juvenile justice amendment bill, and another commentary on the unconstitutionality of section 66A of the Information Technology Act, from the viewpoint of the case Shreya Singhal v. Union of India.

Work environment and people

The only person I was required to interact with was my coordinator. She seemed like a chill person, giving possible deadlines, and allowing us the scope to proceed with the articles in our own ways.

Moreover, she was very appreciative of good work, which was great.

Best things

The no-pressure environment.

While deadlines were to be enforced, apart from that there was no sense of someone looming over your head, or bossing you around.

Plus, for the topics I chose, I had to an extensive amount of research, so I got to learn a lot of stuff.

Bad things

The certificate I received as an acknowledgement of the internship was a bad piece of laminated paper, crinkled and faded at places.

That was very disappointing. Plus, there was a stark grammatical error in the language of the certificate, which read like, “Aap Vakeel Hain acknowledges [insert student name here] for ‘its’ work…

That is hilarious. And kind of embarrassing.

No stipend.

Biggest Lessons

A better understanding as to how to properly write and edit articles.

Plus, the knowledge of law, and how to put all the research withing a fixed word limit is something that would perhaps help me in later writing research papers.

Any Other Thing

Overall, this is a light, fun internship, that can be done even during the academic session in the law schools, when the load is less.
