Faculty and Academics at South Calcutta Law College
SCLC has very flexible timings for its students. Classes begins at 6:30 am and ends at 10:30 am.
The college boasts a very good and skilled teaching faculty who have immense knowledge and experience in various subjects, hence they prove to be very helpful and benificial for a students academic performance by playing an important role.
The faculty hence is very helpful and cooperative with all the students.
Student Culture and Activities
The college does not have its own moot court room, so usually moots are organised in the main Calcutta University Campus.
The absence of extra curricular and co-curricular activities is a big loophole in our college.
Annual sports meet is held every year in the month of December and the college organises its annual fest every year.
Life after classes depends upon personal choice of a students as they are free to do anything as per their wish.
There is no such clubs, societies in our college.
The college is located in Swinhoe Street, Ballygunge which is one of the prime location of Kolkata and is connected to various modes of transport.
One can easily get a taxi, auto or bus to reach the college and its very easy to locate as its located in the lane adjoining the main road.
As its located in Ballygunge, markets and shops providing basic necessities are at a walking distance from campus.
The college has various hot-spots where students usually hangout like its famous common room, Union room, Bike stand and outside reception.
There are many hot-spots outside college where one can surely chill out after college like multiplex which is 5 min walking from college, Lounge, multicuisine restaurants and various street side cafes, which are very popular among students.
Placements at South Calcutta Law College
The college does have an active placement or internship cell and does not provide any support when it comes to placements and internships.
But SCLC boasts a very strong alumni network containing many reputed and famous lawyers of Kolkata and throughout the country.
Hon’ble Justice Altamas Kabir former Chief Justice of India, is an alumni of our college.
Students in our college usually intern under private advocates and law firms located within the city and one can do internship throughout the year as attendance is not compulsory.
No placement stats are available with college, but students are well placed on their own .
Administration and Fees
The college has a very low monthly fees of Rs 200, which makes it too economical and easy for students of all background to get quality education at minimal cost.
It even provides scholarship to deserving students and who come from a financially weak background and even provides railway concessions to students.
There is no such curfew timings in the college for students.
Administration of college is weak as they are old untrained staffs with basic administration knowledge, hence a student should not expect a high expertise administration.
The best things about our college is the expert and helpful faculty who try their best to impart best legal knowledge and make sure we end up scoring well in our academics.
Secondly, the seniors which are very cooperative and friendly with everyone, especially with the juniors and thirdly, flexible college timings.
The bad things about our college is the poor infrastructure, which somehow effects the overall reputation of the college and to a certain extent academic performance of the students.
Absence of strict rules regarding attendance is one of the things which as a student I hate.
Even their are no extra curricular activities which students can take part in, hence it makes the campus life too boring for everyone.
Students who are interested to gain good legal knowledge from an old reputed college affiliated under one of the oldest Calcutta University can opt for admission in South Calcutta Law College.
Tell us about the Infrastructure of your College
South Calcutta Law college provides a very basic infrastructure to its students as compared to high-end private law schools and NLU’s.
Its a 3 storied building with separate classrooms for each semester with basic facilities like the one which is provided in a government college.
It was established in the year 1970 and till date the infrastructure is same without any changes.
It has a well stocked library consisting of all the books and notes which a law student requires and even has its own online library.
The college does not provide any accommodation facilities to its students, so they have to make their own arrangements.
Accomodation is not a big issue as there are many economical and good Paying Guest services for both male and female students within walking distance from college.
It also consists of a common room and a small canteen for its students which serves light refreshments.
