Internship Experience @ Rai & Associates, Lucknow: Court Visits and Read Case Files {S}

Name

Anonymous

Duration of the Internship

14th November, 2015 – 5th December, 2015 (a period of 3 weeks).

You’ll like this place if you have interest in banking laws, particularly, enforcement of security interest (in simple terms, it involves recovering money from the borrower).

The laws which you’ll get to primarily deal with are the Negotiable Instruments Act, the Securitisation and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest (SARFAESI) Act and the Recovery of Bad Debts Due to Banks and Financial Institutions (RDDBFI) Act.

Infrastructure

The office is small and is headed by Shyam Sir, who is assisted by 2-3 associates and 1-2 office clerks.

Although he’s usually busy with his work, he takes out time to interact with the interns and encourages them. Since he practices at the High Court, the Debt Recovery Tribunal and the District Court, you can get to visit all three of them in a single internship.

The work that you’ll probably be given initially is to read case files and explain whatever you understand out of them. Later, if you want, you can ask him for drafting and research work as well.

Since, Shyam sir mainly represents banks and financial institutions, you’ll get to draft Written Statements to Securitisation Applications under S.13 of SARFAESI Act and Original Applications under S.19 of RDDBFI Act.

Further, you’ll also get to work on and understand the law and process involved in cases dealing with dishonour of cheque.

However, a single internship may not give you the time to know all of this so you can chose either to work on the Negotiable Instruments Act or the SARFAESI & RDDBFI Act.

Timings

The timings for interns are negotiable and sir doesn’t press interns to stay for very long hours.

You can go around 10 am in the morning if you want to accompany him to the Court/Tribunal or you can go in the afternoon/evening and work at the office (you can go to the office in the morning as well and work but sir usually won’t be there).

You’ll find him in his office in the evenings.

Since, this is an unpaid internship, you can leave as per your convenience. However, it would simply be rude and unprofessional to ask to leave within 4-6 hours.

Contact

You can drop him a mail at [email protected] with the subject as “Internship application“.

Do attach your resume and provide him the relevant details.

Address

Shagun Palace, Sapru Marg, Hazratganj, Lucknow.
