Name of the intern: Vivek Anandh, UPES Dehradun, 2nd year

Place of internship: Under an activist who is also the chief editor of a magazine (Paadam), Chennai.

(Contact information as provided by Iyal Pari of NUALS, Kochi)

The magazine’s website  http://www.paadam.in (everything is in Tamil).
This is the address: Mr.A.Narayanan,
2/628, Rapid Nagar,
Kunrathur High Road,
Gerugampakkam,
Chennai-602 101.

The mail id of the editor Mr.Narayanan is editor@paadam.in

Duration of the internship: 4 weeks, 6 days a week, 10.30 am to 4 pm

How did you get the internship?: To start with it was all about my luck that I happened to meet the person with whom I interned with, Mr. Narayanan. I was desperately searching for an internship during my summer vacation and wasn’t sure where I’ll land up.

So my dad got a contact somehow and asked me to meet a lawyer in Madras High Court to ask him for my internship.

There I was supposed to wait for him in the court hall where the Public Interest Litigation cases were entertained. There I saw a wonderful thing happening, a person without any lawyer’s attire arguing in front of the judges, which was the first time for me to witness in my life.

My interests being kindled I chased him once he walked out the court hall. It was not so easy for me to grab his attention for he was surrounded by journalists.

Ahh! At last I got a hold of him and introduced myself as a law student. Then I asked him about the cause he was arguing for. He explained me every thing and said that he is a monthly magazines chief editor. The very next day I was in his office doing my internship.

Your first impression about the internship: The best internship I have ever done in my 2 year life as a law student, and also the best one a law student can do as far as I know according to my opinion.

The person with whom I interned with (Mr. Narayanan) needs a special mention here. I have never seen a person so friendly, he never gets angry even if you commit a blunder of a mistake.

Main tasks during the internship: I doubt that I will get such a dynamic and multidimensional work even if I had done an internship with a leading law-firm.

My work started with drafting RTI and I went on to do research to help few eminent journalists on their works, and he also got me chances to attend conferences, seminars, workshops.

Believe it or not in just a one month span I attended almost 20 such events, not just that I got chance to meet few eminent people and get into personal contact with them starting from journalist to the advocate general of the state, which I bet no other internship can provide!

And last but not the least I also got one of my articles published in his magazine.

People at the internship: Being the only intern over there at first I was skeptical about the people, but after a few days they moved well with me and they were also helpful too.

Best thing about the internship: The best part of my internship was the exposure which I got. I was even happened to meet the state election commissioner, which was a big surprise for me.

Stipend: None

Rating: 10/10

Other things:   I will strongly recommend this for any first year law student who would love to do some thing useful for the society and at the same time getting to know things that are helpful for the future  internships. The internship will of course, enhance your editing, drafting and communication skills too.

Thanks for the clarification Iyal. Apologies for the mistake. As an aside; that’s the power of a network.
