Third Semester

Faculty and Academics

After the recruitment of permanent faculty, the university has relatively good faculty.

Currently it has 2 professors, over 8 Associate Professors and over 10 Assistant Professors .

The evaluation is on the basis on projects and written examination, and there is focus for good quality projects by the students which they have to present in front of the class.

Student Culture and Activities

Since, the university is operating form a temporary campus, not many student events are held, except freshers and moot court competitions.

The university held Surana & Surana Moot Court Competition last year.

Location

The university is located in the heart of the city, but sadly the new campus is on the outskirts and is relatively far off from markets and other facilities. There are many eateries in G.S. Road which is the commercial hub of Guwahati. There are no such hotspots in the university as such.

The 5 hot-spots outside are:

1. KFC Ulubari

2. Fun Cinemas

3. Paltan

4. Fancy Bazar

5 Big Bazaar

Placements

Currently there are no placements in the university, but the first batch of the university is going to pass out in Summer of 2016.

Students generally intern in National/State Human Rights Commission, NGOs, lawyers of High Courts/Supreme Court, law firms like Luthra & Luthra, Fox Mandal, etc.

Administration and Fees

The fees of NLU Assam is approx. Rs. 1,76,500 from 2nd year to 5th year which is relatively high as compared to other NLUs.

The administration is shaping up after the protests in October last year and the arrival of the new VC who has taken striding steps to change the face of NLU Assam.

But still a lot has to be done, most importantly regarding placements and infrastructure facilities.

Other things?

NLU Assam is relatively new, and its first batch is going to pass out and is currently likely to be placed.

As soon as it shifts to its new campus, things will start to formulate and maybe in the coming years its students and administration would make NLU Assam one of the best law colleges of the country.

Tell us about the infrastructure of your college

The university has a temporary infrastructure which is quite good. The university would shift to its permanent campus in Amingaon near the Brahmaputra River probably in January.

The only problem are the hostels which are scattered. The first and second year student’s hostel for boys is 1.2 km away, and the other one is 400 m away. The girls reside in the university building itself.

The temporary campus is relatively small, and the academic and administrative blocks are in one single building.

The university has a very good library and students can access online databases such as Jstor, Lexisnexis, etc.

The library has over 9000 books and periodicals and all of them are of good quality.

The Mess food is unsatisfactory and even after relentless complaints, the Mess contractors do not pay any heed to the requests.
