A. Delhi Summer School 2015: International Relations: Theory & Practice

About

In an increasingly interconnected world, opportunities and problems from the Arab Spring to the European identity crisis and the “rise” of Asia have become truly international.

Designed for all those interested in this unique sphere of academic study, students on this course will use practical case studies to examine approaches within International Relations, from core concepts like power or sovereignty to the specific theories of international politics, such as realist, liberal institutionalist, and constructivist thinking, as well as taking a close look at global governance and international political economy.

We will bridge the gap between theoretical insights and practical problems such as the occurrence of war, the role of the United Nations or international responses to climate change.

Not only will you gain a broad knowledge of concepts and approaches to study the “international”, but also the skill to use these concepts to critically analyse international issues.

B. Delhi Summer School 2015: International Political Economy

About

The aim of this course is to explain the evolution of the international political economy since the end of World War II, with particular attention to developments over the past two decades.

By explaining the interplay of economics and politics at the global level, this course will shed light on how and why private and public actors interact to shape the current economic system.

This will serve students to understand how globalization has both constrained and enabled governments, whose decisions and actions today have a greater effect on the global economy than at any point in history.

The course will also explain the role of India in the international political economy, especially since the implementation of economic reforms from 1991 onwards.

By the end of the course, students will have a better understanding of the way in which trade, production, finance, energy and development are affected by politics
