Through research, advocacy and debate, the Internet Democracy Project seeks to unearth both the changes wrought by technology to democracy-as-we-know-it and the implications of these changes for our visions of progessive social change if they are to remain relevant in the digital age.

The Internet Democracy Project is looking to expand its team. We’re looking for smart and creative people to fill three different positions: a Communications Manager; a Programme Manager – Internet Governance; and a Consultant on Gender and the Internet.

1. Communications Manager

Do you know how to make an annual report an appealing read, including online?

Are you able to communicate research findings in fifteen different ways, according to the needs of different audiences?

Does visualising dense textual information in creative ways come natural to you?

Then we need you!

Point of View is looking for a Communications Manager, who will be responsible for developing and implementing Point of View’s global communication strategy, as well as that of the Internet Democracy Project – one of Point of View’s initiatives. This is a full-time position, initially for a year, but can possibly be extended.

We ideally need a self-motivated person who has the following skills:

• Strong knowledge of online communication and an ability to think online-first.

• Strong knowledge of online media tools, including social media

• Solid research and writing skills

• Solid knowledge of infographics

• A strong design or aesthetic sensibility

• An openness to hybrid forms of expression

• An experimental, creative bent of mind and a zest for learning new things

• A strong network among designers, editors and media

• An ability to work independently or with minimal supervision

• Knowledge of and interest in sexual and gender rights and/or Internet rights

Though we prefer to work with someone based in Delhi, we are open to considering remote applications.

2. Programme Manager – Internet Governance

Are you keen to explore how the Internet and its governance can contribute to democracy and social justice?

Are you interested in exploring solutions to related dilemmas in both law and policy and code and hardware?

The Internet Democracy Project is looking for an individual with a strong background in Internet policy research to join its team as Programme Manager – Internet Governance.

This is a full-time position, based out of New Delhi.

The work of the Programme Manager – Internet Governance will focus in particular on taking forward the Internet Democracy Project’s work regarding cybersecurity, with additional attention for multistakeholderism and the WSIS+10 Review respectively.

The programme manager will be responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of research and advocacy work on topics related to the above mentioned fields.

Required skills and characteristics:

• Strong, demonstrable research and writing skills, and ability to undertake research independently

• Strong, demonstrable understanding of issues related to the Internet

• Strong sense of social justice and of the potential of Internet governance to contribute to this

• Educational background in law, public policy or the social sciences, ideally at the Masters level

• Ideally also an understanding of the technical aspects of the Internet and other technologies

• Excellent communicator, able to convey complex legal issues clearly to a broad audience both as a writer and public speaker

• Media savvy, able to respond quickly to current events and to work on short deadlines when required

• Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision

• Willingness to travel

• Minimum two years of work experience in a position which requires comparable skill sets

3. Consultant – Gender and the Internet

The Internet Democracy Project is looking for an individual with a strong interest in gender and technology issues to join its team as a consultant on a short term basis (three months). We are open to considering applications from around India for this position.

The consultant will take the lead in further developing the Internet Democracy Project’s work on strategies women can use to fight back against online abuse.

A basis for this work was laid by the Internet Democracy Project’s earlier research work on this issue (see our research reports hereand here).

We’re looking for someone with the following characteristics:

• Strong, demonstrable research and writing skills

• Strong, demonstrable understanding of gender issues, ideally also in relation to the Internet

• Strong sense of social justice and an interest in the potential of Internet governance to contribute to this

• Excellent communicator with strong story telling skills – ability to use multiple media to convey a message is a plus

• An experimental, creative bent of mind and a zest for learning new things is a must

• Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision
