Internship @ PXV Law Partners, Bangalore : Uncomfortable Work Environment, No Stipend

Name of the organisation. City

PXV Law Partners, Vasanth Nagar, Bangalore. The office was very pleasant and had a very home like feel. It is basically a flat converted to an office hence its not a stereotypical corporate setup.

There are around 4 actual associates in the Corporate department and around 5 in the Litigation department. They also have a concept of lifelong interns from local colleges who act like associates.

Application procedure. Internship contact details

The website of PXV Law Partners is very clear about internships and applications. They have an online form to be filled based on which
they allot internships.

Duration in weeks. No. of days/week. Timings

The firm works 6 days a week. They do not follow timings at all. It is all based on the whims and fancies of the associates and the lifelong
interns.

Accommodation: how, where, how was it?

Bangalore was amazing, Additionally the area has many PGs and places to stay.

First impression. First day, formalities etc.

On the first day I was introduced to the associate who had sent me the formal acceptance. He seemed nice enough. I was initially glad to see that nobody in the office was above 26 years old. The partner himself is only 26. I then realized that it was the worst thing that could happen.

They had a system that they call “friendly interaction” which felt suspiciously like ragging. They also had the tendency to behave like people who were still in college. I however felt it was more pitiable than annoying as since most of them spent their college lives in the firm (as lifelong interns) they never really had a chance to feel young.

It can however be extremely uncomfortable for the interns.

Main tasks

The work the firm gives interns is its only saving grace. I stayed on despite my original decision to leave as they gave us very interesting things to research on. Since they hardly have associates, interns get associate level work. I learned a lot and I will always be grateful, if only for that reason.

Work environment, people

The work environment for the first two days was awful. The “lifelong interns” would act like associates and try to compare their work with ours. They also had this policy of getting interns who were their friends into the firm and then comparing them to interns who are
“outsiders”.

It was a very immature and uncomfortable experience. Additionally, it was very clear from day one that unless you are close personal friends with someone in the firm there is no real chance of being recruited by them.

Best and the bad things?

The best thing would be the work and the co-interns. I was lucky to have co-interns who were amazing and we stuck together despite being picked on. The bad thing was having to associate with immature people.

    Completely Agree.
It is an absolute disgrace. Yes, I’ve heard the Bombay and Delhi offices are better.

  2. Sorry for the typo guys. It reads PXV now.

Didn’t know the partner/ any of the associates when I joined the PXV Bangalore office about 3 weeks back. Having the best internship experience here. Amazing co-interns, brilliant quality of work given, friendliest associates and not to mention, the partner. Its been 2 and half weeks and I’ve learnt more than I have in 2 years of law school. So that’s saying quite a bit. The associates and partner being quite young serves as an advantage, cause it makes it all the more easier to talk to them. Yes, the first week was hard considering the long hours at work. But once you start enjoying the work, time flies and you start enjoying the work hours in the company of the co interns and associates. They even order in food when we’re working late. What more can you expect? I definitely plan to come back and work here again whenever I get the chance to.

And no, I’m not a life-long intern. Not even close. Its my 3rd week in the firm as I’ve already mentioned.

Totally agree! Felt like the Muslim guy from UP working at the Shiv Sena office in Bombay. Would rather intern at a sweatshop in Bangladesh. Would still be a more comfortable work environment. Hell, even a Soviet gulag!

    Haha!
Seems like someone is just trying to blame it all on the firm..

PXV is a great firm! You can truly have a great time there while learning a lot and stuff..

Hey! I interned with them in the month of may. Got similar treatment. Although, they are EXTREMELY nice to the people they know, so it would be a nice place to intern for those who know the associates or partners. Additionally, I hear the Bombay and Delhi offices are very different!! 🙂 cheers!!
