First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
There are three court rooms in NGT but proceedings usually happened in two of them. There was judicial section where we worked much of the time. All these places were air-conditioned. Apart from these NGT boasts of a good library with relevant books concerning environment and environmental law available.
The NGT has a computer section where daily orders of the tribunal were uploaded on in the site. I reached NGT well before time during my first day and so had to go the canteen. Thereafter I went to personal secretary of the registrar general and talked regarding the internship. Nothing much work was given to me on the first day.
I was told to attend the court proceedings and submit a joining letter to the filing section. The first impression of NGT was thrilling as I heard the senior counsels and Chairperson of NGT speak.
I had to hear cases in the court rooms along with other co-interns and after the court proceedings were finished we were required to go to the judicial section of the NGT and get the case file of any one case argued in the court on that particular day and after reading the entire case file, we had to prepare a synopsis of the case.
Work environment and people
The staff of NGT were congenial and helped the co-interns whenever any help was sought.
The entire internship experience has been quite informative and educative. I had the privilege to listen to Mr. Dushyant Dave, Senior Adv., President of Supreme Court Bar Association, Mr. Pinaki Mishra, Senior Adv., Member of Parliament, arguing their cases.
Also it was an absolute delight to hear Chairperson of NGT, Mr. Swatanter Kumar, retired Supreme Court Judge. His intellectual prowess to differentiate the relevant from the superfluous during arguments of the case and framing of pertinent questions that need to be answered by the respective counsels was awe-inspiring.
The whole internship could have been better organised with a person who could dedicate all his time to the law interns in order to enhance their experiences. It was rather disorganized and lacked decorum.
One of the most important aspect of the internship was the opportunity to interact with other interns which has enriched my knowledge about law and also the different perspectives from the which the field of law is viewed.
And I was fortunate enough to see the great Mr. M.C. Mehta in flesh. You dont get to see badasses everyday. His sight reminded me of his actions which subsequently filled me up with inspiration. Nothing is impossible. If you want a change, you’ve to work hard for it.
Any Other Thing
This isn’t my experience, but my friend’s. I have done only one internship so far. And I have already posted the same.Read More
