Internship Experience @ Phoenix Legal, Delhi: Good Work Environ, Stipend of Rs. 5000

As a result, the freshers prefer doing their work themselves and it makes it very simple for the Interns to go to the Associates personally for work or else you can while away the whole day doing nothing unless once a while an associate who may come and give you work.

Application procedure? Internship Contact Details

I had applied through an associate whom I knew so my Internship was through a contact, however as a matter of fact, there was a co-intern who went through the official channels and came through application process which the firm closely monitors through its email id i.e. [email protected]

Duration in weeks. Days of work per week. Timings.

4 weeks. Monday – Friday. 10:00 – 21:00

(However interns are allowed to leave at their own convenience as and when they like if they do not have any pending work and Interns are not allowed to stay in office beyond 9 specially women interns)

First impression, first day, formalities

The office is situated in Okhla Industrial Phase III which is a secluded area in Delhi where you would mostly find corporate offices, but I was well aware of the area so managed to reach the Office with much ease being a Delhiite

The first impression of the office was good as its a well made office where the working area is typical corporate office type with individual desks for every Associate, Senior Associate whereas the 3 Partners have individual chambers overlooking the working area.

First Day at Phoenix Legal was not as I expected as I was waiting to meet the HR so as to complete any required formalities but I asked by the clerk to speak to an associate on the phone who just immediately gave me some work to research in about 20 minutes and to revert back to him.

It took me a minute to recall as to exactly what happened and then without wasting further time I went into the working area and was allotted a desk with a PC to work on and I got on to doing the work.

The only formalities required daily is Sign in and Sign Out.

Main tasks

Phoenix Legal is break off of  Trilegal and a fairly new firm but doing very well and climbing the ladder of success at a much much faster pace than many of the new firms.

The team is a mixed bad regarding the experience where many of the associates are freshers and others including Senior Associates being vastly experienced.

As a result, the freshers prefer doing their work themselves and it makes it very simple for the Interns to go to the Associates personally for work or else you can while away the whole day doing nothing unless once a while an associate who may come and give you work.

I wanted to work from the very first day and went about asking almost every associate working there throughout the month and almost got work from everyone.

Phoenix Legal is primarily a corporate law firm dealing extensively with M&A, JV’s, Procedural Law Framework, Arbitration etc etc. I got work mostly in the above areas mentioned along with small research based on licensing requirements in various other procedural laws.

There is generally a time frame within which you are required to submit your work which will be clarified before you get the work on hand.

Work environment, people

The Associates and the little interaction I had with the partners, I have to say as many internships I’ve done the BEST WORKING ATMOSPHERE exists in this office where the associates are very humble and they make you feel very comfortable since the very first day and not a single day goes by when you see them and don;t exchange a smile.

If you are not able to do certain work allotted (which happened with me) you can easily walk up to them for a little head start and they will be more than happy to give you a lead to start your work on.

The best things AND the bad things

The BEST thing at Phoenix Legal is the working atmosphere and the Kitchen staff who are always ready with a smile to get you a well made cup of Coffee or Tea.

The bad thing (which is not a bad thing actually) is that Phoenix Legal doesn’t allow as a matter of policy for interns to stay till late and work and at times I just didn’t wanna leave but was almost forcefully asked to leave though sweetly and if you’re working beyond time you will be offered dinner from which the associates order every day and its always very good food.

Other than this there was nothing bad and a brilliant place to work and LEARN that while away time in your Internship and get into the thick of things which you will be doing after Law School for earning your Bread & Butter. Start early and move forward among your peers ASAP.

Stipend/month

Rs. 5000 / Month

Accommodation etc. What did you to do chill in and around the office

Being a Delhiite I was travelling to and fro from my House but nearby areas of NFC, Lajpat Nagar, Kailash Colony or GK offer good PG options.

GK, M Block Market; GK I, Lajpat Nagar, NFC are areas to chill where you can go and have good food or may be visit the markets for a beer.

However, you can order food in the office and enjoy it in the small dining area in the office itself in the evening and at times you can request the clerks to put on the TV in the Dining Room to put on the TV.

I asked the clerk and he put on the IPL and was joined later by many associates when Chris Gayle smoked 175 of 60 odd balls and we watched the innings before resuming work again.

Participate in our summer internship experience writing competition with a total prize money of Rs. 48,000.

Thanks ridhima! at least someone is not concerned with the “English” used and the “sarcasm”.
and for others please rather than commenting on english or putting across your sarcasm, rather ask some pertinent question regarding the firm or the work done, would be more informative for you. Don’t forget you’re bound to make typo errors while typing quickly and the same can happen with anyone, so rather being critical on it, learn to ignore it.

WOW… working 5 days a week for 11 hours per day (10 a.m to 9 p.m) and a special offer for women interns, you don’t have to stay beyond 9 p.m (Please read with sarcasm). Are you Serious? Even if work is pending how can you expect a woman to make her way through a secluded area at night…..

You have the option of not reading it and no one asked for your personal comments on the English used. I hope you get an internship and use good “English Skills” to make a mark there than through the work you do.

Pathetic English…. I feel sorry for the Associates who had to go through your work during your internship.
