Internship Experience @ Letscomply, Delhi: The sheer bliss of working from home

Name. College. Year of Study

Tejaswinee Roychowdhury. Department of Law, University of Calcutta. 10th Semester (5th/Final Year)

Name of the organization. City

Letscomply, Delhi (but online Internship so I worked from my place at Kolkata!)

Duration of the internship

30th January, 2016 to 11th May, 2016 (basically the duration will be the period of 10 assignments, depending on when you can complete them).

How big was the office? Team strength?

Well, since the internship was online and I never went to the office physically, I am not sure about the office strength but from what I could make out in the official interactive whatsapp group of interns (made by our Internship co-ordinator and Sr. Editor, Adv. Javed Rafi), there were about 16-20 interns.

Application procedure. Internship contact details

You need to send your CV and Writing Sample to [email protected] and [email protected] with the heading “Online Internship Application” (I found the application procedure on Lawctopus itself).

Duration in weeks. No. of days/week. Timings

Like I said earlier, you need to complete 10 assignments.

For each assignment, you will be given average 3 days of time. Now its upto you if you want to work during the day or at 2am!

The sheer bliss of working from home!

Accommodation: how, where, how was it?

I worked from home.

First impression. First day, formalities etc.

Two days after I sent my CV and Writing Sample, on a lazy Saturday afternoon I received a call from Adv. Javed Rafi, a short telephonic interview. Then I was immediately e-mailed the procedure for submitting my assignments.

The internship will be beginning from the day you receive your first assignment. Their promptness was something impressive.

Main tasks

I was given assignments from Intellectual Property Laws to International Laws to Company / Business Laws to basically every other field in law. A word limit and deadline is given. You have to conduct research and write an article or blog which will be published in their website.

In case of any difficulty or query regarding it you can always contact Javed Sir and he being the friendly Boss that he is will gladly help you. In case of major mistakes, you will be given one chance to resubmit.

Work environment, people

I only interacted with Javed Sir and he a is very friendly, helpful and chilled out person. He is also very strict and specific regarding work.

Best things

The fact that you get to know so much beyond books while conducting research on various topics and the flexibility of work timing.

Bad things

I didn’t encounter any evil.

What did you do to chill? Co-interns, colleagues

I worked from home so I chilled on my own in my own sweet time.

Stipend/ month

You will get a stipend after 10 assignments so it won’t be on the basis of per month or per article and the stipend will depend upon your quality of work.

I am yet to receive mine so cannot tell the exact amount as of yet. However, after 4 articles you will be given an author profile and seeing that on the website is simply blissful!

Anything else you’d like to tell

Be prepared for a lot of research work and be glad because it will teach you a lot.

Biggest lessons

The pen is indeed mightier than the sword.

Letscomply website says as .. “We are a team of experienced Chartered Accountants, Company Secretaries, Cost Accountants, Corporate Lawyers Management Graduates, IP Attorneys and Technologists”. Young Law students or Young Lawyers and those who discontinued their C.A or C.S. having the background of Law working in the above firm will be a very good experience. Young Advocates who work sincerely with them will give enough job satisfaction.

The main issue is Advocates may not have knowledge of accounting and auditing and CAs may not have practical knowledge of Law. By working with the above firm Advocates with Accounting and Auditing background will learn more. The above firm may provide opportunities to Trial Court Advocates also. Preferably “working from home” method will be useful. They have to know the time limit and payment.

We are living in the era of globalization. There is a need to produce the best globally competent talented one from the grassroots. If the gap among Advocates or Law Firms working in Delhi, State Capitals, big cities and Trial Court Advocates opportunities for Trial Court Advocates will grow. All Trial Court Advocates may not come from reputed Top Law Colleges or Law Universities or Law Schools. Once they understand the working style of top Law Firms, in house training or work in Large, Medium and Small Corporates they can mould their life.

Opportunities in places like Delhi or NOIDA are more in comparing with district level or Subordiate Court level.

I think Top Law Firms or Corporates will utilize the skills of Trial Court Advocates also in future. If they have vacancies they may send the information to all Bar Associations.

As per the essay published by the Center on the Legal Profession at Harvard Law School .. Lawyers as professionals and citizen key roles and responsibilities in 21st century .. (https://clp.law.harvard.edu/assets/Professionalism-Project-Essay_11.20.14.pdf ) .. 21 Century Lawyers have to play key role as “Technical Experts, Wise Counsellors and Effective Leaders.” Discussions on these roles in our country has not yet commenced. If the discussions are commenced people will know the purview of Advocates under various laws and how they will be useful to shape the destiny of country.

Lawctopus is doing a wonderful job by bringing out a lot of information and creating awareness among Trial Court Advocates and among Law Students. This type of information is very useful to all Law Students who want to pursue their Law Studies in future. By visiting this site Law Students will learn a lot. They will have more knowledge in comparing with those who don’t visit this site.
