Application Process

I went through a Women Scientist Programme of TIFAC, Department of Science and Technology.

The process includes an entrance exam followed by an interview.

Also, there is a one month long orientation programme at TIFAC before the internship starts.

The programme is only for female candidates with an engineering or post graduate degree in Science.

Duration of Internship and Timings

6 months and timings are flexible (8.30 am to 5.30 pm or 9.00 am – 6.00 pm)

First Impression, First Day Formalities, Infrastructure

The office has a nice infrastructure with a 3 storey building along with a basement.

On the first day, they gave me a worksheet to be filled and submitted at the completion of internship along with some stationery.

Also, I was made to sign a Non-disclosure agreement.

I was given a workstation with a desktop at the second floor where there is Patents Department (Chemical/ Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Life Sciences) according to my area of domain.

However, law interns coming for a month or two are made to sit in the library in the basement.

Main Tasks

Major tasks allotted to me during the internship included attending to Client Queries, Prior Art Searches, assisting in drafting of Patent Applications, Filing of National Phase Patent Applications, Reviewing First Examination reports, preparing comments and response for the same.

Attending Hearing and Discussions of Patent Applications before the Assistant Controller of Patents.

Work Environment and People

People were friendly and warming.

My Mentor was extremely helpful and a nice guide.
