First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
After reaching on the first day, I was asked about the issues I would like to work on. I was assigned the Persons With Disabilities Act. I had to study the Act and then work on a few cases relating to the same.
Since a residence has been converted into an office, there were no cabins or photocopy rooms as such. However, since it is an office, the interns were required to have a professional attitude.
The main tasks involved studying different acts and then working on cases relating to the same. I worked on PWD Act, Juvenile Justice Act and also on acid attack cases.
Since Mam had to attend a conference in Delhi on acid attacks, I helped in preparing the report to be presented at that conference.
Work environment and people
The environment was professional with and all the interns were required to regularly complete the assigned tasks.
The cases assigned to one intern were discussed with co-interns so that all could learn from the others. Veena Mam and Jatinder Sir were there to help us.
The best thing of my HRLN Chandigarh internship was that I got a first hand experience of some of the pressing issues that are otherwise not taught in law school.
I studied different statutes and supplemented the learning by working on cases.
The only negative was that since the office was small, a lot of interns could not be recruited. Therefore, a competitive environment was missing.
The biggest lesson I learnt is that there a lot of problems which are often ignored by many lawyers and since lawyers are well-versed with law, they can help solve these effectively.Read More
