Application Process

Through the Lawoctpus site, I found scope of internship opportunity, I applied at [email protected]

One must send C.V. along with a Covering Letter, if found eligible, I have observed that the office contact the intern for initial discussion then only call for interview.

In response to my application I received mail with details of the organization which is a legal consultant and free-lance social service provider. Gist of work profile was given in the mail, I was asked to refer the same and if interested then to contact for an interview.

Having found the job profile interesting, moreover after meeting personally I found more interesting matters of the office help needy by way of R.T.I applications to various government organizations, also the founder Mr. Bharat Gandhi engaged in International Trade, having Foreign Companies’ representation and professional arbitrator for International Trade Dispute, which requires drafting plenty of legal documentation and correspondence I decided to join immediately.

Timing

10:00- 6:00 p.m. (With flexibility in case Intern need to attend important lecture or other genuine reason)

First Impression, First Day Formalities, Infrastructure

The office is small but comfortable with very cooperative co-workers.

Though Shri. Bharat Gandhi who had studied law but not a practicing lawyer, he maintains reasonable good amount of Legal books, copies of recent judgments related to property, family and civil cases.

Main Task

I was entrusted to read case papers related to an Arbitration Appeal to be filed before the Hon’ble High Court. After I studied all files and then after with guidance and supervision of Mr. Gandhi synopsis and appeal papers were finalized to be handed over to the Advocate who is entrusted to handle the case in the Hon’ble High Court.

I also had the opportunity to visit Advocates & Solicitors offices which is very useful for law students to learn how softly but quickly practicing advocates discuss.

The second case was meeting with Advocates representing Consumer Forum Complaints. This subject was very much interesting as nowadays Consumers awareness is taking lead.

The third case which I partially attended is related to a Criminal case against Housing Society’s Managing Committee for Harassment, Extortion and Mental Torture to member. It was very interesting to set sequence of events with documentary evidences to make the complaint more effective before the Court.

At the same time I was invited to join in meetings with individuals and other families who visit the office to seek help and guidance on housing society’s issues, distribution of inherited family properties, gift of immovable properties etc.

Work Environment

Mr. Gandhi is very selective in taking up new matters with his own principals. Because of his more than 33 years all around experience of dealing with International Conglomerate Organizations, plenty of things to listen from him and learn how to deal with foreign companies officials.

Moreover, there is no formality of dress code, you are free to consume tea, coffee, flavored milk, wafers, biscuit anytime as there are no restrictions. During Lunch hour and in case of late working hours soft instrumental music can be played.

Best Things

The interns get enough time first to understand the working style of the office, case related issues and Mr. Gandhi always available to answer any number of questions from interns. Interns are given free hand to prepare draft which will be finally read and edited by Mr. Gandhi before forwarding the same to concerned Advocate.

I feel my six weeks’ time is less as I had ample opportunity to learn many new things but because of forth coming exams and to make vacuum for new intern, wishing all the best to Your Helpline, I will be ceasing my internship with the hope that in January 2017 I will be given one more chance at Your Helpline.

The highlight of the whole internship other than the learning experience was when Sir took the team for lunch and movie one fine day.

Bad Things

There is nothing bad at all in this office and with the other team members.

Stipend

I have been paid for the conveyance cost plus very reasonable amount which is generally not offered by other offices.

Others

To ensure regular attendance the office prefer Interns staying in Western Suburbs of Mumbai. The office is located in commercial hub of Andheri (W) Main New Link Road, which is accessible by Metro, and other bus routes. Plenty of restaurants and shopping Malls nearby but I have had no reason to visit any.

  1. Bharat Gandhi says:

First of all thanks to Lawoctpus for providing opportunities to law students to get information on scope of internship availability, moreover, to know about particular organisation from “Internship Experiences”. Regarding the above experience posted by a student who interned with us, wish to specify that (1). The Intern and others were given chance to see the movie “Pink” which is related to Court procedure, how cross examination is conducted and to know “Zero F.I.R”. In other words, it was not Bollywood entertainment but related to Law. (2). Taking team fro lunch, if there is urgent and pending work on holiday if intern is requested to attend office (definitely no compulsion) as token of appreciation everyone are treated with lunch in any restaurant where one can choose own dish.
