Duration of internship and timings

5 weeks.

Generally we worked from 10:30 in the morning to 4:30 in the evening with lunch break of half an hour.

However, occasionally when the work load was more we had to work till 7:30 or so in the evening, especially on days before the events organized by the NGO. So, the working hours are flexible.

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

The office is quite big, occupying the top floor of the building and the infrastructure is also good.

On the first day, our orientation was taken by one of the staff members and then, we were introduced to the executive director, Mrs. Dolcy Simon.

She briefed us about the kind of work we were going to do during the internship and the things we could learn from the experience.

Main tasks

The NGO works for the betterment of health, education, senior citizens of the society, income generation for the poor, disabled etc and thus, organizes various events and schemes for the same.

Our main task was organization of these events.

For example, in one of the event called KALA JUNCTION, which was for primary and secondary school children, our tasks included deciding the competitions we can organize, preparing the concept notes, drafting letters for the schools guests and judges, designing the invitation cards and banners , team management on the day of the event etc.

Work environment and people

The work environment at The United Way is quite easy going.

The staff members are always ready to help you and the co-interns are also very friendly to work with. You can always enjoy working here.

Best things

The best thing about the internship was I think the chance to work under the executive director of the United Way of Baroda – Mrs. Dolcy Simon. I learnt many things from Ma’am.

Second best thing is the work assigned to you. Its something through which you can show your creativity and talent.

Bad things

I didn’t encounter anything bad per se during my internship. But occasionally, you have to travel a lot in the city to get the office work done.

Stipend

None.

Biggest Lessons

The biggest thing I learnt from the internship was how to communicate effectively with people at work place and get the job done!

Any Other Thing

I would like to mention that the team work during the internship was a very helpful learning experience.
