First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

The office is well maintained and accommodates the interns pretty well. The people working in the office are very approachable and very friendly.

The first day they had asked for my College Id card which they scanned it for official purposes. I had to meet the Deputy Director Shri N G Dinesh as well on the same day. They had an attendance sheet ready which I had to sign every day of your internship. As there were no proceedings posted for the day, I was given a Case-file to study.

The office is on the third floor with about five arbitration halls. They were renovations started when I was interning. They intended to add a few more halls as the cases coming into the Center.

Main tasks

The main tasks for the interns was to attend the proceedings posted on every day. I used to go though the cause list every morning and attend the cases which I found interesting.

You can even study an arbitration award of a decided matter. You need ask for the file from the Section Officer.

At the end of the internship, you are asked to submit a 2-3 page internship report.

Work environment and people

The work environment is very good. The people are very friendly. You can approach anyone if you have any doubts.

Best things

The best thing about interning at the Arbitration Center is that almost every day you get to meet different arbitrators and different lawyers. You get to observe all of them in action.

Most of the Arbitrators who came in were Retired High Court and District Court Judges. It was an experience in itself when we were able to converse with the arbitrators.

Internship at the Center is a learning experience, especially for 2nd and 3rd year students of a 5 year course.

Bad things

I felt very comfortable and I didn’t face any difficulties. So on my part there were no bad things.

Stipend

No Stipend.

Biggest Lessons

The biggest lessons learnt were that no matter that a compromise is always a possibility. I even learnt that arbitration is an option to explore for anyone facing or wanting to initiate a legal proceeding. An arbitration proceeding is to conclude within 90 days from the date of framing of issues which ensures a faster pace of the case and also lessens the burden of the Civil Courts.

Any Other Thing

The office is pretty close to the Kempegowda Bus Station which is the central bus station for BMTC in Bangalore. If the bus you travel in passes through the Mysore Bank Bus Stop which for many buses is the stop right before last bus stop i.e. Kempegowda Bus Station, you can get down there and take an auto to reach the place. The charge will be the minimum of Rs. 25/-. Otherwise after reaching the said bus stop, an auto can be taken.

There are various restaurants. one of the most famous restaurants in Bangalore, Chalukya is at a walk-able distance from the Centre. other than that the High Court of Karnataka and the Vidhan Soudha- the Karnataka Legislature are also close by.
