Internship @ Anup S. Shah Law Firm, Bangalore: Harvey Specter-ish Office; Rs. 5000 Stipend

Name. College. Year of Study:

Noopur Srivastava, National Law University Odisha, 4th Year.

Name of the organization. City:

Anup S Shah Law Firm, Bangalore

Duration of the internship. No. of days/week. Timings:

I interned at the Bangalore office starting from 26th Nov, 2013 to 24th Dec, 2013. All the interns are supposed to work from Monday to Saturday except second Saturday of every month.

Timings can be flexible but they do not compromise on number of hours each day one intern has to work. My office timings were 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

However, if I did not intend to leave the work pending or if my supervising associate had something urgent, I stayed up to 9:00 p.m. at night.

How big was the office? Team strength?

The Anup S Shah Law Firm’s office is a grandeur four storied building made of blue glasses all over situated at the heart of Cunnigham Road, one of the posh areas of Bangalore city. It has one of the best databases and a magnificent library.

I found it very well organized and the firm mainly deals in real estate litigation. It deals in many high-profile cases and is one of the best litigation firms in Karnataka.

Application procedure. Internship contact details:

I applied for the internship 3 months in advance via my CV and cover letter. The firm gives you a prompt reply.

The Person in charge of internship is Ms. Thaseen Bano ([email protected]).

Also the official id is [email protected]

Accommodation: how, where, how was it?

Since the area where firm is situated is near to Mount Carmel College, hence there are good PGs and hostels nearby. I stayed in a PG which was only two blocks away from the firm in front of Accenture office.

The PG was very good with electricity, free wifi, kitchen, TV hall and geysers included in the PG charge which was minimal of five thousand bucks. The area is very secure and everything is available in walking distance.

First impression. First day, formalities etc:

To describe in few words- However higher you go, you find mightier world around you! I was dumbstruck to see the beautiful and grand building and the entrance was the library with books on each and every subject of law.

On first day, I was directed to the HR who gave me a time sheet where I was supposed to fill up each task with the name of the person who assigned it. I chose to work in the Litigation Department at Anup S. Shah Law Firm.

The office from inside was beautiful and the common halls resembled Harvey Specter’s Office view! (A timid comparison). As far as work was concerned, my first task was on Specific Relief Laws and CPC which senior associate gave me.

The best thing about the work was that the associate explained the basic laws before assigning any work and streamlined the research.

Main tasks

Since it is a litigation firm in real estate, my work mainly comprised of research on civil issues and laws like CPC, Specific Relief, Contract and Commercial Disputes in relation to Property laws, Aviation laws, Trusts Act and Arbitration laws.

I also visited Bangalore civil courts and High Court which in itself was a splendid experience (Bangalore High Court is one of the most beautiful courts in India).

Work environment, people

Work environment at Anup S Shah Law Firm’ is really learning and the work culture keeps you active. Associates take their first meal of the day during lunch time and show no frustration in spite of work load.

Everybody is cordial and is ready to explain you core concepts of law. Even Partners are ready to assign you a task and are co-operative.

Best things?

The best thing is the learning atmosphere and cordial nature of associates. The cafeteria at 3rd floor is the most coveted place with coffee/tea machine and snacks.

The weather of the city is an add-on.

Bad things?

In the entire month of my internship, I hardly found anything inconvenient except for the fact that when there are many court sessions going on, you need to ask for work else you will sit idle for half day.

What did you do to chill? Co-interns, colleagues

There were co-interns from other law universities who were chilled and were always ready to help with work.

The firm is located at a perfect location with CCD, MacDonalds, Pasta Treat, Dominos and lots of other eateries.

There is a sigma Mall with Fun cinemas in 2 minutes walking distance. And to add, one coveting spot can be the strawberry vendor who gave strawberry shake with 6 strawberries without water only for 25 bucks.

Stipend/month

Rs.5000/- for 4 weeks

Anything else you’d like to tell; Biggest lessons

Make contacts during your internship and take advantage of the opportunity of working with learned people!

Keep a track of your timings while you enter and exit the firm. J
