Apni Shala Fellowship 2016-17: Work on Children’s Education; Apply by April 3

One year, full-time, paid fellowship programme for graduates from any discipline, with a passion to work with children.

About Apni Shala

We all know and agree that schools are purposed to deliver an education that ensures children emerge as conscientious and reflective citizens capable of bringing change in their own lives as well in society.

But how many schools do we know who qualify to claim this? Consider schools that children from the lowest economic strata of society go to, and the difficult and challenging circumstances that children from these communities face on a day to day basis.

Of the 1612 of schools that these children usually attend, almost none have the infrastructure to provide this much needed education to children.

What’s more – with the changing social and cultural scenario, it’s even more imperative that children are able to build excellent problem-solving, interpersonal relationship building and decision-making skills (also called life skills).

These are skills that could help them break through the barriers that keep them from making the most of opportunities around them. And schools should be able to offer excellent programmes that help children do this.

Who we are:

Apni Shala is a non-profit organisation determined to create a wave in this direction in the education system in the country.

We’re a young and dynamic team of professionals, who for the past 3 years have worked hard to weave together highly effective life skills programmes for children that they can access in their schools every day.

We also work with teachers and parents to make a bigger impact through this multi-stakeholder approach.

Having already reached almost 3000 children, 80 teachers and 200 parents, we’re all set to double our impact next year!

About the fellowship

The Apni Shala Fellowship is a 1 year full-time, paid fellowship programme for graduates from any discipline, with a dream to change the way children learn.

The fellowship is an opportunity for aspiring educators and counsellors to hone their skills with hands-on field experience, to develop themselves as leaders and catalysts for change in communities. It seeks to build a platform for youth to become more aware of social issues and start out on their journey of self-transformation.

Apni Shala Change Fellows will be frontrunners of the life skills education movement and the face of the organisation in schools. Following a rigorous training programme, fellows will work directly with children from low income schools and communities.
