18th Strawberry Fields 2014 [NLSIU, Bangalore, 12-14 December]

NLSIU Bangalore announces the 18th edition of its flagship music competition and show, Strawberry Fields, to be held from the 12th to the 14th of December, 2014, at the NLSIU campus, Nagarbhavi.

One of India’s largest and most prestigious music platforms, and rated as ‘India’s best college rock festival’ by the Rock Street Journal, Strawberry Fields is both a competition for upcoming bands, as well as a fest that brings down professional acts to perform. Entry for all three days of the fest is free.

Ever since its birth as ‘Lawcommotion’ in 1996, Strawberry Fields has been a unique law school fest in the fact that it not only looks beyond inter-law university, or even inter-college competition, and engages with young bands, but also attempts to make contributions to the independent music scene in India itself by supporting original music.

Strawberry Fields has served as a lauchpad for bands of the calibre of Motherjane, Thermal and a Quarter and Demonic Resurrection, and for newer bands of such skyrocketing popularity as Clown with a Frown, Bicycle Days and the Down Troddence, to name a few.

In its 2014 edition, having closed its registration process for the year, Strawberry Fields will see 40 upcoming bands participate in the fest over its first two days, with five of these being chosen to play on the grand finale on day three by an elite panel of judges.

The fest’s registrations this year indicate that the show’s reach has extended beyond metros and is spreading across many smaller cities, like Faridabad, Diphu and Coimbatore, as well. For the list of participating bands, please visit the Strawberry Fields Facebook page.

The three days of Strawberry Fields bring you quality music from new upcoming bands, as well as a diverse food line up, exposure to talented designers and artists, given stalls of their own, and an opportunity to network with fellow law students.

As for its professional headliner component, SFXVIII will see not two, but six headlining professional acts performing over the second and third evenings of the festival.

The run up to the festival is also going to see a ‘pre-gig’ take place at Indigo Live Bar, a prominent performance venue in Bangalore, to usher in the spirit of what Strawberry Fields stands for. Watch this space for more announcements!
